I’m disorganized. I admit it. I’ve been that way my entire life. And it’s only getting worse. I have five computers, an iPod, an iPhone, and an iPad, which now contain more digital stuff than any hoarder could push, with all their might, into a four bedroom ranch home. I have hundreds of thousands of files and folders. I might even have millions. I don’t really want to know.

When I see TV shows about hoarding, I always think these people who are up to their eyebrows in their own crap and bric-o-brac are quit loony tunes. My house, is relatively clutter-free, I semi-reassure myself. But then I think about all my digital belongings and I start to feel just a little bit queasy. 

Maybe I’m a digital hoarder and I’m just flat-out in denial.

I’m having more and more difficulty finding the digital things I’m looking for.

For example: Where did I put that green screen footage for “The Sound of Your Voice In My Head?”  video? What hard drive is it on? Which computer is it on, I know it’s here somewhere? What about the Logic files for that? I hope there still all there? What version is the latest one? And so on. 

And, on top of all the digital stuff…there is all the actural physical stuff.

It could happen that I become so overwhelmed by all my digital belongings that I become incapable of dealing with actual physical reality. 

And, once again, I’ve just created more digital stuff; another piece of digital property on another website.

I’m a digital hoarder and my life had become unfathomable. I need another cup of coffee.
